Join the Bainbridge Public Library for the July 2023 First Friday Art Walk, featuring the Wednesday Art Group

Library LogoThe Bainbridge Public Library is dedicated to spreading the joy of reading and the discovery of ideas with not just our local community, but with visitors from near and afar. In addition, the library is fortunate to house beautiful local works of art both inside and outside the building. Each month the library celebrates a local artist (or artists) with an exhibit, which opens monthly on the Island’s First Friday Art Walk tour, and includes a reception hosted by the featured artist.

The Bainbridge Public Library is proud to present an exhibit by the WEDNESDAY ART GROUP

The 11 artists will host a “meet and greet” from 5pm-7pm on Friday, July 7th to open their new exhibit, “Creativity Through Friendship” for First Friday Art Walk

“It all started at a kitchen table in 2017. Pam Harrison asked me for some private lessons in colored pencils, and a few art lessons became an ‘every Wednesday’ getting together to work on our art.

Pam had artist friends she invited to join us, Joyce and Janice, and the little kitchen table became a gathering of artists with different skills, styles, and ideas. 2020 came with Covid and the lockdown. The kitchen table needed to become virtual. First, WAG became virtual through the Winslow Art Center via Zoom. Thanks to the Winslow Art Center, we added a few more members, but it came to a point where we needed to become independent. Today, we’re still meeting over Zoom, for our members that live in Arizona, Oregon, and California.

We’ve been sharing our artwork by creating postcards and mailing them to each other. Single-handedly we are keeping USPS still in business. We also have a weekly word prompt. A word or phrase is chosen as an inspirational starting point to keep us working on a piece of artwork during the week. Some are busy, but it’s a great starting point if one of us has a case of artist’s block.

Today, we are a group of 11 artists of diverse backgrounds, styles, and artistic levels. I hope you enjoy this sampling of our artwork, and if you’re an artist with artistic friends, think about getting together to share ideas and skills while traveling along your artist journey. Your mental well-being and art skills will thank you.” – Lead artist, Susan Wiersema
