Winery Alliance of Bainbridge Island Expands to Include Kitsap Peninsula Wineries, Rebrands as Kitsap Winery Alliance

It wasn’t that long ago that Bainbridge Vineyards and Winery – once housed where the Vineyard Lane condominium complex is now located – was the only operating vineyard and winery on the island. It was, in fact, one of the Bainbridge’s major tourist attractions, as wine lovers would trek over from Seattle on the ferry and walk up to Gerard and Jo Ann Bentryn‘s cozy tasting room that was surrounded by – what else? – rows of maturing grape vines.

My how times have changed. Bainbridge Vineyards is still around but is located on Day Road East and is now owned by Betsey Wittick. The 47-year-old property is no longer operating in a silo. There are five other wineries nestled on Bainbridge, all part of the Winery Alliance of Bainbridge Island, a
longstanding organization that has been promoting and supporting island brands for more than 12 years.

Now, the organization is broadening its scope to embrace wineries across the greater Kitsap Peninsula, “ushering in a new era of collaboration and celebration of local wine culture and events,” said Brooke Huffman, Executive Director of the newly formed Kitsap Winery Alliance.

“This expansion brings together a diverse array of wineries from Poulsbo, Olalla, and Hansville, joining forces with the existing Bainbridge Island members. … The addition of these wineries enriches the Alliance’s mission to foster community engagement, elevate regional winemaking, and provide unforgettable experiences for wine enthusiasts near and far,” Huffman added.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome our new members from the Greater Kitsap Peninsula to the newly expanded Kitsap Winery Alliance,” said Matt Albee, Owner of Eleven Winery and President of the Kitsap Winery Alliance. “This expansion represents a significant milestone in our journey, as we unite with wineries across the region to showcase the rich diversity and exceptional quality of wines produced right here in our own backyard. We’re also excited about the upcoming programing we’re able to offer wine enthusiasts across the state and invite them to Kitsap.”

New Members of the Kitsap Winery Alliance include:
State 42 Wines in Poulsbo
Hard Hat Winery in Poulsbo
Olalla Winery and Vineyard in Olalla
Telve di Sopra (opening late Summer in Hansville)
Finial Cellars (opening late Summer in Poulsbo)

These additions join the existing roster of Bainbridge Island members:
Bainbridge Vineyards
Eagle Harbor Wine Co
Eleven Winery
Fletcher Bay Winery

Rolling Bay Winery
Perennial Vintners

“With the expansion comes an exciting lineup of new programs and events that will not only showcase the exceptional wines of Bainbridge Island but also highlight the unique offerings of wineries across the Kitsap Peninsula,” said Huffman.

From a wine cruise around Bainbridge Island on July 27th to a new tasting passport offering a flight at each winery, the Kitsap Winery Alliance will offer new programs and events for local wine drinkers and visitors alike.

As part of its rebranding efforts, the Kitsap Winery Alliance will unveil a refreshed visual identity that reflects the organization’s expanded reach and collective spirit, Huffman explained.  For more information about the Kitsap Winery Alliance and upcoming events visit: (kitsapwineries.com)
