Time to bring things indoors but keep your eyes open with visual stimulation at First Friday Art Walk with the Bainbridge Library’s October artist, Mary Ann Proctor who will host an opening reception, Friday, October 2, 5-7 p.m. in the library meeting room. The exhibit is titled “My Life is also my Medium”.‘My Art’ from Ms. Proctor: Half medicine and half myth, my drawings tease, invoke, and challenge. Drawn from deep psychology and lived experience, I tap into my hopes, dreams, and emotions, drawing myself into the picture like Escher’s hands—each holding a pencil, each drawing the other into existence.
I work by listening to what shocks, troubles, and inspires me. Some drawings have thorns; others offer transcendence. Together they become a gateway into my inner spirit.
My work reflects a belief in interconnectedness, collective well-being, and ecological responsibility.
I have come to believe that paying close attention to life makes interesting art. My life and my art have never been separated. Each has shaped the other through an ongoing process of reflection, questioning, and transformation. The experiences that follow are not simply my biography—they are the wellspring from which my drawings emerge.
Therefore, my heart is my art. It’s heart medicine. It’s myth. It is how I pay attention to what is happening in my life and the world around me. It is how I deepen my understanding and, I hope, plant a few seeds of wisdom these interesting times.
You can view this exhibit during regular library hours (unless a meeting is happening) throughout the month. A portion of sales is donated to the library. As always, thank you for supporting local artists and your Bainbridge Public Library, says Linda Meier, art coordinator.
