Bainbridge Island Fire Department to Host Push-In Ceremony for New Wildland Fire Engine This Coming Thursday, July 1st

The Bainbridge Island Fire Department invites community members to attend a traditional push-in ceremony celebrating the addition of a new Type 3 wildland fire engine to the department’s fleet.

The ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 2, at 1 p.m. at Station 21, 8895 Madison Ave NE, Bainbridge Island, WA. The event is open to the public.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

The new Type 3 engine represents a significant investment in the department’s wildfire response capabilities and will play a critical role in protecting Bainbridge Island and supporting regional wildfire mobilizations throughout Washington State, BIFD officials point out.

Designed specifically for wildland and wildland-urban interface incidents, the apparatus is equipped to operate in challenging terrain and respond effectively during periods of elevated fire danger. Its off-road capability and all-weather performance will also enhance the Department’s ability to reach locations on Bainbridge Island during inclement weather and other challenging conditions.

“This engine strengthens our ability to respond to the growing wildfire threat facing communities across our region while also improving access to areas that can be difficult to reach during severe weather,” said Fire Chief Jared Moravec. “It is an investment not only in today’s emergency response needs, but in the safety of our community for decades to come. Our expectation is that this apparatus will serve the Bainbridge Island Fire Department and the residents we protect for the next 20 to 25 years.”

Push-in ceremonies date back to the days of horse-drawn fire apparatus, when firefighters manually pushed equipment back into the station after returning from a call. Today, the tradition serves as a symbolic welcome for new apparatus entering service and honors the history and heritage of the fire service.

Following brief remarks and the ceremonial push-in, attendees will have the opportunity to view the new engine and learn more about its specialized capabilities.

The Bainbridge Island Fire Department encourages community members, partners, and supporters to join firefighters in welcoming this important addition to the fleet.
