Bainbridge Island Historical Museum is hosting the Live Auction: Turn Back Time Gala- The Twenties
Join the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum (BIHM) for their live auction Turn Back Time Gala: The Twenties, on October 1, 2022 from 6pm – 9pm to be held at Wing Point Golf & Country Club, 811 Cherry Avenue, Bainbridge Island.
The event will include a dessert dash with goodies by local bakers, and be hosted by nationally recognized non-profit auctioneer, John Curley. Appetizers, dinner, and drinks are included. Dressing for the 1920’s is encouraged, but not required.
Proceeds will benefit the museum and its mission to preserve and share the stories of Bainbridge Island. Get tickets here
In addition, BIHM will hold a paddle call with a generous, anonymous matching gift of $25,000. Per the BIHM website, “Your donation to this event will be matched up to $25,000 by an exceptionally generous and compassionate donor. This donor left the island on March 30, 1942 – 80 years ago. On that fateful day, she and her family – along with hundreds of Japanese Americans – were sent to Manzanar, California. She has fond memories of growing up on Bainbridge Island. And she has lifelong friends here. Although she did not return to live on the Island, she continues to support the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum.”

The Bainbridge Island Historical Museum began as an informal Society in the 1930s, and in 1949 they joined with the Kitsap County Historical Society, Bainbridge Island Branch. In 1971, the Island Center schoolhouse (the schoolhouse was built in 1908, and one of the last one-room schools in operation on the island until 1923, when it closed), was donated by the school district to the Society to be used as a museum and moved to Strawberry Hill Park (site of a former U.S. Army Nike missile base). As the museum grew, and the community donated materials, they soon found themselves full to capacity, and through the generosity of the McCracken family, a new building was added onto the rear of the schoolhouse in 1997. Though Strawberry Hill was a beautiful setting for the museum, it wasn’t easily accessible and a new site was located on Ericksen Avenue, just one block north of Winslow Way and a short walk from the Seattle-Bainbridge Island ferry terminal. Both museum buildings were moved to the new site in 2004.
