Bainbridge Island Rowing Sends Record Four Boats to Youth National Championship in Florida

Rowing is fast becoming an iconic sport on Bainbridge Island. Head to Eagle Harbor on any given morning or afternoon and you’re likely see rowers of all ages plying the deep, dark waters of the island’s favorite bay. Not far from the traditional shell launching spot adjacent to the Waterfront Park Public Dock, is Bainbridge Island Rowing’s beautiful new facility named in honor of Stan Pocock.

Pocock, as most people now by now, is the son of George Yeoman Pocock, the famous designer and builder of rowing shells that competed in the Olympic Games, including the ones used by the “Boys in the Boat,” the now famous University of Washington rowing team that won the 1936 gold medal in Nazi Germany, in front of Adolf Hitler.
