Bainbridge Island Summer Virtual Studio Tour 2020
The Bainbridge Island Studio Tour is a twice-yearly event, spanning several venues across the Island, featuring anywhere from twenty to more than fifty local artists, comprising of painters, sculptors, jewelers, potters, fiber, mixed media, photography, glass, and much more.
Last December the Winter Studio Tour celebrated its 36th year, and they’d originally planned to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Summer Studio Tour with thirty-eight artists showcasing their work at three local artists’ studio venues this year. However, the health and safety of their artists and customers is by far more important than a physical tour, as such they’ve transformed the format into a virtual tour, where visitors can view the artists’ work, and connect directly with the artists via phone or e-mail.
“Our customers are very special to us. They are loyal, discerning, and so supportive of our local artists! We have so many returning customers, year after year, and we hope they will continue by using our website to work with the artists in a new way. The world is changing, and this virtual art event can be a fun way of connecting, if we all stay positive.”
—Tour Manager Dinah Satterwhite.
Artists are selected via a jury process to ensure their work is of the highest quality, original, and hand-crafted to reflect the “hand and spirit of the artist.” The 2020 Summer Studio Tour will feature a variety of mediums including: glass, pottery, jewelry, oils, photography, garden art, metal, mixed media, batik, wearables, sculpture, wood, fountains, and whimsical work.
New to the Tour this year, is artist Debra Arend. Debra’s glass pieces began as a hobby, and she’s continuously refined her techniques and skills, blending art and science into glass pieces that transform handmade art glass and found items into upcycled glass sculptures. An example is her repurposed lanterns that involve a multi-stage process of sand blast carving, painting, and gilding glass with the technique of Verre’ Eglomise. With pieces for the yard, home, and serving ware for everyday and entertainment use, you are sure to find something unique and exciting among her wares.
