BPA Presents the Hilariously Irreverent Musical, “Urinetown”: Oct. 11–27, | With a Pay-What-You-Can Preview on Oct. 10

Bainbridge Performing Arts (BPA) is presenting the Tony Award-winning musical Urinetown, a biting satire with a wildly entertaining mix of comedy and social commentary. Running from October 11 through 27, with a Pay-What-You-Can preview on October 10, “Urinetown will leave audiences laughing, thinking, and possibly a little grossed out—but in the best way,” says the BPA’s Matt Longmire.

Directed by Jaylin Green, Urinetown tells the story of a dystopian future where water is scarce, and a tyrannical corporation controls public toilets. The show hilariously tackles serious themes like corporate greed, environmental disaster, and social justice through its razor-sharp humor and catchy musical numbers. “I’m really excited about this show,” says Green. “I think people are going to laugh a lot and maybe be a little horrified at the same time, but they’re going to love it.”

The cast features standout performances from BPA veterans and newcomers alike. Sebastian Hulburt delivers a laugh-out-loud portrayal of Officer Lockstock, the story’s narrator with a dark sense of humor. Sydney Swalberg brings a spark of rebellious curiosity to Little Sally, while Anden J. Leo shines as Bobby Strong, the charismatic leader of the revolution. Rachel Brinn plays the tough-as-nails Penelope Pennywise, and Jessica Robins commands the stage as the heartless corporate overlord Caldwell B. Cladwell.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Music Director Will Sanders praises the score, saying, “The music is where Urinetown really shines. You think it’s going to be silly, but good comedy knows when to take itself seriously, and some of these songs are really powerful.” Audiences will be treated to a live band, bringing Mark Hollmann’s unforgettable score to life.

As part of its mission to engage with the community, BPA is featuring Bainbridge Prepares as its Nonprofit Spotlight partner for this production. Bainbridge Prepares will have a presence in the lobby during select performances to share information about their important work in disaster preparedness and community resilience.
