Busy Weekend Ahead: Celebrate Coworking Day, Kitsap Farm Tour, Pickleball’s Founders Tournament, and Summer Studio Tour

Help OfficeXPats Celebrate 13 years in Business at The Pavilion

Today is International Coworking Day. Thirteen years ago – on August 9th – OfficeXpats OfficeXpats Coworking and Meeting Space was almost ready to become the first coworking space in Kitsap County.

“We weren’t quite finished with the construction of our conference rooms and kitchen build-out, but we didn’t want to miss this international recognition of what was then the new trend of coworking,” recalls OfficeXPats co-owner Leslie Schnieder. “So we swept up the sawdust, turned on the Wi-Fi and had a party.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

“As is our summer tradition, join us—upstairs in the Bainbridge Pavilion—for:

        • FREE coworking all day, 9-5 pm. Grab a desk and get productive with hi-speed fiber Wi-Fi and free coffee

        • FREE barbecue lunch, meat/veg burgers and fixings; all are welcome to contribute salads and sides

Fun facts: The start of coworking is credited to software engineer Brad Neuberg’s San Francisco collective workspace, started in 2005. In pre-pandemic times, only 6% of American workers were fully remote. In 2021, 26.7% of employees were fully remote but 50% feel lonely at least once per week (we can help with that).

Pickleball’s Fifth Annual Founder’s Tournament at Battle Point Park.

Pickleball’s Fifth Annual Founder’s Tournament is underway this weekend at the Founders Courts at Battle Point Park.

The multi-day tourney is a fundraiser for the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum in partnership with the BI Metro Parks & Recreation District, and the island’s growing Pickleball community (https://bipickleball.org/).

Among many other activities, the tourney includes clinics, a Wooden Paddle contest, doubles matches, as well as a whole slew of contests involving men’s and women’s doubles play and mixed doubles games. More than 475 players are registered to play in this year’s Founders tourney.

Summer Studio Tour on Tap This Weekend, Aug. 9-11

Three days, six studios and 47 artists, all local. That’s the makeup of the Bainbridge Island Studio Tour, going strong since 1984. “We’re so excited to be a part of this fabulous, juried art show, surrounded by other wonderful artists,” says Dinah Satterwhite, tour organizer, and herself an artist.

The tour will take place August 9, 10 and 11. 10 to 5 Fri/Sat and 10 to 6 Sun. “Our 2024 Summer Studio Tour artists are live,” Satterwhite says. “Our Tour Artists can be accessed here and in our main menu, as well as a Studio Map, along with customer photos of artists’ work.
