Celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day Today at Woodward Middle School; This Coming Saturday No Kings 2 Demonstrations on Bainbridge and Elsewhere
Indivisible Bainbridge Island is staging two events later this month. The first one on tap is the nationwide No Kings 2 demonstration slated for Saturday October 18. It is one of more than 2,500 peaceful, non-violent demonstrations taking place across the country on that same day, “where millions of people will express their opposition to the authoritarian regime taking over our democracy,” says Stephen Hubbard, an organizer of the Bainbridge event.
The local event gets underway at 10 a.m. at Gideon Park in Downtown Winslow, located on the corner of Grow Avenue and Grove Street, just north of Wyatt Way.
“We will be making a human banner that will spell out “No Kings!!” in letters 22 feet high.,” Hubbard explains. “We estimate this sign will take 362 people. The rest of the participants will form a huge circle holding hands around No Kings!! There will also be free RESIST buttons for everyone who participates. … After the human banner has been created and documented by our drone team, we will walk 0.7 miles on the sidewalks through Winslow to the Junction of State Highway 305 and Winslow Way where the pro-democracy group 50501 will have started a sign waving demonstration at 11 a.m.” Hubbard continues. “We will join them for chanting, sign waving and encouraging ferry traffic to honk. If people wish to go to the No Kings rally in Seattle, it will be held from Noon to 4 p.m. and they can take the ferry.”

ADVERTISEMENTS:
The other event associated with Indivisible Bainbridge Island is a live streaming at Island Center Hall of Timothy Snyder speaking at Benaroya Hall in Seattle on the night of October 26.
