Check out the Screening of The Plastic Detox Movie Sunday at Lynwood Theatre; Find Your Voice with Crescendo Community Choir; and More

Zero Waste Bainbridge Island is hosting a special screening of The Plastic Detox movie this Sunday, September 20, from noon-2 p.m. at the Historic Lynwood Theater.
” I was prepared for another depressing documentary on plastic proliferation and its deleterious effects on the environment and our bodies,” says Diane Landry, the voice of Zero Waste. “It does address that, but to me, the message is ultimately uplifting in that the film shows how we can take some control over whether plastic and its potentially toxic chemical additives invade our body. And as a good movie does, it offers suspense.”
Zero Waste Washington’s executive director, Heather Trim will be part of a post movie Q&A panel. Part of her comments will touch on what Zero Waste Washington’s focus will be in the 2027 Legislature, regarding bills that have something to do with plastic.
The movie is free, but Zero Waste Bainbridge is asking people to get tickets (Lynwood has an approximately 200-person seating capacity.) Here’s the link:
Besides Trim, two toxicologists, island residents Shirlee Tan and Elinor Fanning, will also be part of the panel. In addition, there will be two free raffles: one for plastic-free home products donated by T&C and another for The Problem with Plastics, a book donated by Eagle Harbor Books.

Crescendo! in action

Crescendo!, the vibrant adult and older teen community vocal ensemble under Ovation! Performing Arts Northwest, kicks off its fall session on Monday, September 21.

This season’s repertoire focuses heavily on holiday, winter, and seasonal music, featuring a standout song from a beloved modern Christmas movie classic. The session includes several late-autumn performances, anchored by a grand public holiday concert on Monday, December 14 at the Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church. Charity Munson, Crescendo’s Publicity Chair, emphasizes the energetic and welcoming nature of the group, noting, “It’s the most fun you can have on a Monday night!”

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Designed for inclusion, the group requires no auditions. Members range from experienced sight-readers to those who learn entirely by ear. To make rehearsal easy and flexible, Ovation! provides recorded practice tracks for every distinct voice part once the session begins. Unsure if the group is the right fit? Interested singers can take advantage of a risk-free opportunity to check out a couple of rehearsals before committing to the full session.

Registration fees directly fund local student scholarships and non-profit operations. Participants can choose from three support levels: the Basic Level ($99) covers standard session tuition, the Allegro Level ($125) includes tuition plus a $26 tax-deductible donation, and the Presto Level ($150) includes tuition plus a $51 tax-deductible donation.

Discover the joy of singing together. Secure your spot and select your tuition tier by visiting the official website at ovationmtb.com. For additional questions, contact the staff directly at info@ovationmtb.com.
