City News Bytes: Big PSE Equipment Moves to Impact 305, Smells Emanating From Wykoff Superfund Site, Climate Smart Tax Credits Ending Soon
Traffic might get a wee bit more congested later this week on State Route 305. Puget Sound Energy (PSE) https://www.pse.com/is delivering two new large pieces of equipment—a control house and transformer—to its Murden Cove Substation on Thurs., Aug. 14.
PSE Delivery Schedule and Route:
The oversized equipment will be delivered in the morning on Aug. 14. The route will take the equipment up the Kitsap Peninsula, across the Agate Pass Bridge, and down State Route 305 to Sportsman Club Road NE, ultimately reaching the Murden Cove Substation. During this time, travelers along the entire route, particularly along State Route 305, may experience some delays. Please review the details below for more information on the work and potential impacts.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
What You Can Expect:
- Equipment Delivery: PSE crews will deliver one piece of equipment at a time, using a convoy of pilot cars and oversized vehicles. Due to the width of the equipment, traffic will be briefly blocked across the Agate Pass Bridge.
- Arrival Times: The first piece of equipment is expected to arrive at Murden Cove Substation around 9 a.m. A crane or other moving equipment will be positioned in the substation driveway but will not impede the road right-of-way.
- Traffic Control: Pedestrian and cyclist traffic control will be in place, as needed, for the trail crossing in front of the substation driveway along Sportsman Club Road NE.
- Second Delivery: The second piece of equipment is expected to arrive at the substation around 11 a.m.
- Completion: PSE crews anticipate completing the work by the end of the day on Aug. 14.
EPA Responds to Concerns About Odors Coming from the Wycoff/Eagle Harbor Site
What’s that smell? The City of Bainbridge Island has heard reports from people voicing concerns about odors near the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Wycoff/Eagle Harbor Superfund Site. The City asked the EPA to provide it with an explanation.
Here is the statement from the EPA:
“EPA is aware of community member concerns pertaining to odors generated as part of the Wyckoff/Eagle Harbor Superfund Site perimeter wall replacement project. The current debris excavation and sorting activities part of this project are generating these odors.
EPA and the United States Army Corps of Engineers (partnering agency on the project) are working diligently to address the odor by continually escalating management practices including covering stockpiles, using odor suppressing foam, and minimizing the active working area to reduce odors. EPA is performing daily perimeter air quality monitoring to ensure that the community is not exposed to concentrations of site-related contaminants that would pose potential health risks.
EPA expects odors will significantly decrease after the current activity (debris excavation and sorting) is completed. We currently anticipate debris excavation and sorting activities will finish within the next two weeks.”
