Don’t Despair, Repair! the BARN and Sustainable Bainbridge to Host First-ever Fix-it Fair

The Bainbdridge Artisan Resource Network (BARN) is partnering with the Kitsap County Solid Waste Division and Sustainable Bainbridge for what may be the island’s first-ever Fix-it Fair, scheduled for March 1, 2025. This free community event brings together skilled volunteer fixers with residents looking to give their broken items a second life.
Have a lamp that won’t light? A vacuum that’s lost its suction? A beloved sweater with a tear? Rather than adding these items to our landfills, bring them to BARN’s Great Room, where experienced repair volunteers will attempt to fix them while sharing their knowledge with you.
It’s more than just a repair service – it’s an opportunity to learn valuable skills and participate in a growing movement toward sustainability and resource conservation.

The Fix-it Fair concept has already proven successful at various locations throughout Kitsap County. Now, with support from the Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island, the BARN is bringing this innovative program to the Bainbridge community. Participants can bring up to two items for repair, ranging from small appliances and electronics to clothing and jewelry.

This collaboration perfectly aligns with BARN’s mission of building community through craft. It combines hands-on learning with sustainability goals while bringing together skilled volunteers and neighbors helping neighbors.

Want to be part of this community initiative? Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 1, from 11 AM to 2 PM. Repairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and participants must be present during repairs. If you have repair skills to share, consider joining the Kitsap County volunteer fixing team – visit http://kcowa.us/fixitfairs to learn more.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

According to Kitsap Solid Waste Division officials, area residents are welcome to bring one or two items per event. As mentioned above, fixers will attempt repairs on one item at a time. If there’s time, you can join the line again with your second item. However, we may limit repairs to one item if the event is busy.

At the Banbridge event, fixers will attempt to repair:

  • mendable clothing and textiles like tablecloths, curtains, jeans, and more (sorry, no zippers)
  • computers and PCs (sorry, no printers)
  • bikes (minor repairs)
  • jewelry
  • metal items that need small welding jobs
  • small household appliances like lamps, vacuums, toasters, and more!

BARN volunteers will help with minor welding jobs using their metal fabrication studio and minor plastic repairs using their tech lab. All participants using this service must check in at the Fix-it Fair check in table.

Visit our Fix-it Fair webpage for more information on items not accepted and how to prepare before the event.
