Earth Day is Friday, April 22nd – Check Out All the Events Happening on Bainbridge Island This Week and Next

Sustainable Bainbridge, in partnership with many other Bainbridge Island nonprofits, is hosting an incredible variety of opportunities, including weed pulls, Earth Day celebrations, recycling talks, climate change education, gardening and tree discussions, free invasive weed education and disposal, and nature walks.

Everyone can take action and join activities to support and celebrate our environment and beautiful planet Earth.

EVENTS – April 18th through 28th

Climate Smart Challenge, Thursday, April 21, 6-7pm – The new Climate Smart Challenge identifies key actions you can take that will help our community work towards the goals in COBI’s Climate Action Plan. The Challenge encourages you to think critically about your habits and changes both big and small that you can make to lessen your climate impact, save money and improve your health and the comfort of your home. Learn how the Challenge works, how you can form a team and earn points, and what resources are available to support everyone’s efforts to create a Climate Smart Bainbridge.  Zoom here.***

BI Parks Earth Day Celebration 2022Sunday, April 24th from 10am – 1pm at Rotary Park – Come celebrate Earth Day with Bainbridge Island Parks! Join Bainbridge Island Metro Parks, in partnership with the Bainbridge Island Parks Foundation for a celebration of spring at Come join the fun with dozens of nature-focused activities for kids of all ages! Plant wildflowers, learn to identify and pull invasive weeds, visit with over fourteen local organizations including Kitsap Master Gardeners, Sustainable Bainbridge, the Bainbridge Island Land Trust, the Kitsap Audubon Society, and so many more.

Argensal Argentine & Salvadorian CuisineThere will be local food vendors on hand to fuel up those hungry weed warriors, plus live music, and a real-live owl to meet. Admission is free and parking is available on site and at nearby locations. Better yet, ride a bike and get a free sticker! 

After the Blast – Mt. St. Helens 40 Years Later, Sunday, April 24, 2pm – Presented by author and biologist Eric Wagner in the Bainbridge Public Library.

Spring Skills of a Naturalist: Wetland Ecology, April 28, 9:30-11:30am – Explore the biodiversity of a freshwater pond ecosystem with IslandWood’s staff naturalist, Christina Conklin. Come with your questions and curiosity, such as; How does a freshwater ecosystem change in this spring season as we head towards the hot summer months ahead? Or; What are our ‘look fors’ in this unique habitat, to ensure its health and vitality for all of the species that depend upon it? This class is for adults only.
