Jeffrey Moose Gallery  is proud to announce a solo show of experimental photographs and mono prints by Bainbridge Island artist Mandi May for the months of April and May. A reception will be held on First Friday, April 5th from 6 to 8 PM. A Facebook tour of the exhibit will take place from roughly 5:20 – 5:40. On First Friday, May 3rd, Ms. May will do a demonstration of her non-traditional mono printing technique.

She has an unusual perspective on the land: her photos are carefully composed in-camera, without the use of software, using creative lenses, prisms and other objects to alter the field of vision. Her work often has a dream-like quality where water and sky merge seamlessly with forests and flowers. The juxtaposition of images often lends a sense of motion to her imagery, giving the viewer a sense of hovering above or passing by.

“My creative process is intuitive and experimental. Through the lens and printing plate, I paint images both familiar and imagined, merging form with emotion.” ~ Mandi May. The Gallery is located at 181 Winslow Way East, Suite F.

Artists Talk: Northwest Designer Craftartists & Bainbridge Arts & Crafts: Exquisite Ornament Sunday, April 21 at 3PM at BIMA Auditorium.

Throughout human history, our innate inclination towards ornamental expression has woven a rich narrative. As Elizabeth Gilbert eloquently penned, we are artisans driven to render things more beautiful than mere necessity dictates. In this collaboration with Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, we extend an invitation for you to contribute works that bear witness to our inherent desire to adorn not only ourselves but also the spaces and objects that surround us.

The spectrum of acceptable submissions is broad – from wearable pieces to sculptural objects. Embracing various craft media, including ceramics, wood, fiber, glass, metals or a harmonious blend of these elements, we encourage the exploration of artistic boundaries.

Artists Include: Candyce Anderson, Lanny Bergner, Cheryl DeGroot, Barbara De Pirro, Mark Ditzler, Kate Dwyer, Gina Freuen, Zia Gipson, Marguerite Goff, Joan Hammond, Lois Harbaugh, Peggy Hitchcock, Steve Jensen, Bella Yongok Kim, Sharon Kita, Dorothy McGuinness, Meg Murch, Gabriela Nirino, April Ottey, Amy Roberts, R. Leon Russell, Laura Stangel Schmidt, Jean- Marie Tarascio, Cynthia Toops, David Traylor, Larkin Jean Van Horn, Barbara J. Walker, Judy Zugish. BAC is located 151 Winslow Way E.

Masquerade in Peacock Feathers by Melody Maleitzke at Fletcher Bay April 2024
Masquerade in Peacock Feathers by Melody Maleitzke at Fletcher Bay April 2024

Fletcher Bay Winery will host artist Melody Maleitzke. As an artist, Melody’s work has spanned many different genres, such as floral design, crafts, jewelry and sculpture. She also taught arts and crafts for many years, and found time to write and create art for children’s books and comic books. She even won an award at the San Diego Comic Con Masquerade for her original, handmade costume, Elytra.

In 2019, she discovered washi tape. “It was fascinating stuff, so I found myself buying more than was necessary for a craft project,” she said. “One afternoon, my daughter was bored and I said, ‘Let’s “paint” with washi tape’.” They created portraits of each other with washi tape on canvas and from that point forward the world of washi tape art opened up for her and she began creating art using the delicate, patterned tape as her medium.  She and her family moved to Bainbridge Island in 2020, and she’s a participating artist on the bi-annual Bainbridge Island Studio Tour. Fletcher Bay Winery Winslow Tasting Room is located at 500 Winslow Way E.

Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA)  – PNW Alt-country, blues and Americana legend Mark Pickerel returns to BIMA for their May First Friday After Party.

First Friday After Party at BIMAHow can you miss this show?! From the wild, wooly and weird Pacific Northwest, drummer/guitarist/singer Mark Pickerel has quite the back story. Before becoming a leading voice in the PNW’s alt-country, blues and Americana music scenes, he was the drummer in seminal grunge faves The Screaming Trees, has played on albums by Mark Lanegan, Brandi Carlile, and Nirvana, toured with Neko Case and contributed to her track on the “Hard-Headed Woman: A Celebration of Wanda Jackson compilation.”

Mark’s got the goods, though. He was born to be in front. With his rakish good looks and his tendency to spend more than $3 on haircuts, he has already endeared himself to the ladies of the office. His voice—alluring and just a little bit sinister—evinces his influences ranging from Leonard Cohen, Lee Hazlewood and the Gun Club, to the Stranglers and Nick Cave. Click here for tickets. BIMA is located at 550 Winslow Way E.

Windermere Real Estate Bainbridge Island will exhibit the work of Therese Kunzi-Clark. Windermere is located at 249 Winslow Way East, Suite 400.
