First Friday of every month, 6-8 PM

Once a month, Bainbridge Island Downtown Association coordinates the First Friday Art Walk.

Although the First Friday Art Walk will be a bit different than it was pre-pandemic, you can still enjoy an evening experiencing all that downtown Bainbridge has to offer. Many galleries, restaurants, shops and businesses will be participating this month. Start off the summer season with a stroll through downtown, enjoying restaurant offerings, and shopping for gifts or items for yourself and your home. The walk begins on Winslow Way (near the ferry terminal) from 6pm to 8pm. *Please adhere to WA State Covid guidelines, as well as guidelines instituted by individual businesses.

Bainbridge Arts & Crafts (BAC) presents Island Ink – A Printmaking Exhibition

BAC is one of the earliest non-profits supporting the artistic community of Bainbridge Island. Getting its start in 1948, BAC has since grown into an educational and community outreach center focused on providing gallery space, classes, artist lectures, scholarships and sponsorships. For the return of the First Friday Art Walk, BAC is proud to present their Island Ink exhibition, featuring several artists, most of whom were instrumental in setting up the printmaking studio at Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network (BARN).

Jan Branham – Jan spent 35 years as a public high school art teacher—upon retirement, she began a new career as a full-time printmaker. She’s worked with several groups of printmakers on the island, and is an active member of BARN, the Southern Graphics Print Council, The American Craft Council, and Seattle Print Arts. Jan’s work is whimsical and done in a variety of genres, such as paintings, prints, sketches, cut paper and collages.

Karen Cornell – Karen is a Bainbridge Island painter and printmaker. She received her MFA in painting in 1998 from California College of the Arts in Oakland. Color, movement and connection are the foundations of her work. Her paintings on paper are developed as quick studies, evolving through various brushes, rollers and transfer, which adds layers and depth to her work. Karen’s panel paintings are simpler, but full of color, line and form. Her monotype pieces are one-of-a-kind prints of spontaneous color.

Pam Galvani – Pam is a Bainbridge Island text-based artist and printmaker. She has taught at the Cornish College of Art, is an active participant in calligraphy and printmaking on an international basis, as well as an active member of BARN. She draws inspiration from words, phrases and stories, conceptualizing the text to create a visual exploration in her monotype pieces.

Meg Hamlet – Meg is a visual artist who uses a variety of mediums to draw, paint, printmake, collage and construct her pieces. Over the last year, she has explored the relationship between these mediums and genres, creating trace monotypes, which then became the underlayer for further exploration into the use of color, shape and mark making. As Meg describes it, “What has emerged is not an end to a particular series, but a further opening to an ongoing creative process.”

Lynda Harwood-Swenson – Lynda is a Seattle area artist, who has worked in education at the Seattle Art Museum since 2010, currently as the assistant manager for studio programs across three museum sites. She is the recipient of the 2018 Vermont Studio Fellow and 2016 Artist Trust GAP Grant. In addition, her work is included in the City of Seattle Public Utilities Collection. Her artwork focuses on the connections and interactions between social relationships, environment and beauty.

Renee Jameson – Renee is a native of Western Washington, currently living on Bainbridge Island. She received her BFA from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. In addition to working on her artwork, she is a printmaker liaison for the BARN print studio. Renee uses mixed layers of colored ink, typically using four to six layers to create shape and depth, which in turn invoke intrigue and mystery.

Katherine Woolley Lesh – Katherine spent her youth growing up in the river valley of Southern Oregon and parts of coastal California. She majored in Studio Art in college, studying drawing and printmaking, which is where she was first introduced to monotypes. During her studies, she focused on drawing, painting, and black and white photography. Although she deviated from printmaking for a time, she found her way back through monotype workshops with Wendy Orville, and today enjoys working with her own press in her studio.

Bergh Images – To celebrate the return of First Friday, fine art photographer Andrew “Andy” Bergh is holding a drawing for a matted print, valued over $150.00.

Andy’s images are evocative and eclectic, spanning subjects from landscape/nature, urban, and travel in different mediums of metal, acrylic, canvas, and custom-framed B&W prints. Matted prints are featured in two sections, “local” and “travel”, and range from Bainbridge Island, the Olympic Peninsula, Seattle, the United Kingdom, and Europe. In addition, he has updated his online store, adding 3 new pictorial galleries, which celebrate the beauty of Bainbridge Island, the PNW, and the Olympic Peninsula, with more galleries coming soon.

Millstream – The Millstream art gallery and store carries a wide variety of unique artwork, clothing, glass and ceramics, décor, jewelry and more. All pieces are created by local artists as well as artists throughout the Pacific Northwest.

They are proud to feature artist Chuck Gumpert this Friday. Using a variety of mixed medias in oil, acrylic, ink, graphite and collage, Chuck creates bold abstracts which invite the viewer to explore the stories he tells via his canvases.
