In the early 1990s a handful of local farmers and artists got together on what is now Winslow Green for the first Bainbridge Island Saturday market. Although the market was modest in the beginning, it has grown in offerings and popularity and typically features more than 40 vendors.
This year we welcome, Jenny Nickolaus as the new Market Manager. Jenny and her partner founded and operated The American Local restaurant in Portland, Oregon. Four years ago, they took time out to embark upon an RVing adventure and sold their home and business to travel around the country. Deciding to plant roots again, they knew they wanted to live in NW Washington and fell in love with our area, settling in Poulsbo. Jenny brings a wealth of experience in the food industry and a desire to share the delights of our local growers, crafters and farmers with the community.
The Market’s Opening Day will host an abundance of vendors featuring locally grown produce, plants, flowers, and wine, as well as beef, pork, chicken and eggs. Artisans and crafters will offer macramé, greeting cards, paintings, and all-natural cosmetics, and food vendors round out the Market menu with bread, pastries, alternative milks, and limited prepared foods. More vendors are planning to attend later in the season as well.
I asked Jenny if there was anything new we could look forward to this year, “We are introducing a sponsorship program so that we are able to provide more activities for children, educational programs like cooking classes, and of course keep our music program running on a weekly basis. While none of these programs are new, necessarily, we are looking to expand what we have done in the past to continue to make the market a hub for the community,” she explained.
If you would like to know more about these programs and how you can participate, email the BIFM at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Live Music—the Market is always on the lookout for musical performers, if you or your band are interested in performing at the Market, email them here.
Book Nook—the Market is hoping to entice local authors to join together (rotating each week) in a shared space, if you’re an author and are interested, email them here.
Please note that the market will be running without restrictions (until they are told otherwise), however they do encourage people to take precautions like social distancing and wearing masks for the safety and well-being of the community.
The Bainbridge Island Farmers Market Association (BIFMA) is a non-profit organization operated by a volunteer Board of Directors consisting of vendors and community members. BIFMA’s mission is to provide a marketplace which connects local farmers, artisan food and craft makers with the community.
If you’re interested in becoming a vendor at the Market, you can contact Jenny directly at email@example.com.
The Bainbridge Island Farmers Market runs Saturdays, 10-2, from April through November.
