It’s that time of year again – Bainbridge Island 2022 Farmer’s Market Opens in April

BIFM_Market Hours 2022BI Farmers Market Poster 2022The new season begins Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 10am to 2pm.

In the early 1990s a handful of local farmers and artists got together on what is now Winslow Green for the first Bainbridge Island Saturday market. Although the market was modest in the beginning, it has grown in offerings and popularity and typically features more than 40 vendors.

This year we welcome, Jenny Nickolaus as the new Market Manager. Jenny and her partner founded and operated The American Local restaurant in Portland, Oregon. Four years ago, they took time out to embark upon an RVing adventure and sold their home and business to travel around the country. Deciding to plant roots again, they knew they wanted to live in NW Washington and fell in love with our area, settling in Poulsbo. Jenny brings a wealth of experience in the food industry and a desire to share the delights of our local growers, crafters and farmers with the community.

Bainbridge Island Farmers' Market The Market’s Opening Day will host an abundance of vendors featuring locally grown produce, plants, flowers, and wine, as well as beef, pork, chicken and eggs. Artisans and crafters will offer macramé, greeting cards, paintings, and all-natural cosmetics, and food vendors round out the Market menu with bread, pastries, alternative milks, and limited prepared foods. More vendors are planning to attend later in the season as well.

I asked Jenny if there was anything new we could look forward to this year, “We are introducing a sponsorship program so that we are able to provide more activities for children, educational programs like cooking classes, and of course keep our music program running on a weekly basis. While none of these programs are new, necessarily, we are looking to expand what we have done in the past to continue to make the market a hub for the community,” she explained.

If you would like to know more about these programs and how you can participate, email the BIFM at  bainbridgefarmersmarket@gmail.com.
