It’s that time of year again – Bainbridge Island 2023 Farmers Market Opens April 1st!
The new season begins Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 10am to 2pm.
Prior to the Market’s filing of the Association’s Articles of Incorporation with Washington state in 1990, founding members, Brian MacWhorter (Butler Green Farms), and Anne and Peter Weber (Farmhouse Organics) gathered on what is now Winslow Green and set up an informal weekly market to sell their locally grown produce. Over the years, the market has evolved and grown to accommodate the island’s growing population, and now hosts over 40 local vendors, including farmers, food vendors, and crafters with artisan-made goods.
THE OPEN-AIR MARKET IS LOCATED IN THE TOWN SQUARE BY CITY HALL EVERY SATURDAY FROM APRIL THROUGH NOVEMBER’S END (RAIN OR SHINE).
The Market’s Opening Day will feature locally grown produce, plants, flowers, and wine, as well as beef, pork, chicken and eggs. Artisans and crafters will offer macramé, greeting cards, paintings, and all-natural cosmetics, and food vendors round out the Market menu with bread, pastries, alternative milks, and limited prepared foods. More vendors are planning to attend later in the season as well.
This year we welcome back Market Manager, Jenny Nickolaus. After founding and operating her own restaurant in Portland, Oregon, she and her partner took time off to embark upon an RVing adventure and travelled around the country. When they decided to settle down again, they couldn’t resist the pull of the Pacific Northwest and settled in Poulsbo. Jenny has brought a wealth of experience in the food industry and a desire to share the delights of our local growers, crafters and farmers with the community. In addition to managing the Market, Jenny has worked with other organizations to coordinate their programs, such as this year’s FAM JAM at KiDiMu.
