Join ReFashion Bainbridge for a Conversation with J.B. MacKinnon and Rebecca Rockefeller – October 11th

A Conversation with JB Mackinnon - Refashion Bainbridge poster October 2023ReFashion Bainbridge is proud to present a one-hour discussion between J. B. MacKinnon, journalist and author of The Day the World Stops Shopping (in addition to The 100-mile Diet) and Rebecca Rockefeller, co-author of Buy Nothing, Get Everything, and one of the founders of the world-wide Buy Nothing Project.

This free event takes place at the Bainbridge High School Auditorium on Wednesday, October 11th at 7:30pm.

After the conversation, there will be a question-and-answer period, and an opportunity for book signing.

The Day the World Stops Shopping: How Ending Consumerism Saves the Environment and Ourselves envisions a time when we reduce our consumerism by 25%. MacKinnon tracks this possibility through the world—what it would mean in our lives and the lives of others, how it would affect us, and how it could save the planet.

His in-depth and wide-ranging research encompasses consuming habits from blue jeans to electricity. And he shows how short a time it took us to get to where we are now, and how we could dial it back to make a huge impact on climate change.

J. B. MacKinnon is an award-winning journalist whose work has appeared in the New Yorker, National Geographic, and the Atlantic, as well as the Best American Science and Nature Writing anthologies. He is also the author of four books of nonfiction, including the bestselling Plenty (with Alisa Smith), widely recognized as a catalyst of the local food movement. He lives in Vancouver, Canada.

Buy Nothing - The Buy Nothing, Get Everything Plan book cover courtesy of Liesl Clark and Rebecca RockefellerRebecca Rockefeller started the innovative Buy Nothing online marketplace with island buddy and fellow environmentalist, Liesl Clark, around 2013, and it has since mushroomed into something of a worldwide phenomenon with more than 6.5 million members across the globe, and 7,500-plus established communities located in 20 countries. In addition, the high-energy entrepreneurs wrote “Buy Nothing, Get Everything,” available on Amazon and other online book-selling sites. They’ve also created a separate app for users and potential users (which has had more than 650,000 downloads).
