Senior Center to serve as a Cooling Center during Excessive Heat Days
Trying to beat the heat?
The City of Bainbridge Island’s Emergency Management Coordinator Anne LeSage is monitoring the forecast and will open a cooling center 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 26; Sunday, June 27; and Monday, June 28 at the Senior Community Center, located at 370 Brien Drive SE.
As most of us are aware, the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning from Friday, June 25 to Monday, June 28 due to dangerously hot conditions with highs warming to the 90s and peaking above 100 degrees Sunday and Monday.
The City activates its cooling center when there are four or more hours over 90 degrees.
COVID-19 protocols will still be in effect at the cooling center. People who are not fully vaccinated (two weeks past their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine) must wear a mask while inside the Senior Community Center.
People who need transportation to the Senior Community Center can request a ride on Kitsap Transit’s BI Ride on Saturday and Monday. To schedule a ride, please call 1.844.4BI.RIDE. Additional transportation options are being considered for Sunday.
