Swap, Don’t Shop: Don’t miss ReFashion Bainbridge’s Clothing Swap on Sunday, Nov. 17

clothing swap poster“Swap, Don’t Shop” is the mantra driving sustainable fashion efforts on Bainbridge Island, where residents have celebrated creative reuse since 2016.

The movement began with the Trashion Fashion Show, featuring wearable art made from items destined for landfills. The initiative has since expanded to include workshops, runway shows and exhibitions through ReFashion Bainbridge, a program of Sustainable Bainbridge.

Following successful events in March 2023 and March 2024 that drew more than 100 participants, the next clothing swap is scheduled for Nov. 16-17 at the Filipino Hall, 7566 High School Road NE.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Clean your closets of women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing and scarves you’re no longer using, and bring only those items that you would give your best friend to the Filipino Hall on Saturday, Nov. 16, between 11 AM and 3 PM. Torn or stained clothing, footwear, hats, jewelry, socks, undergarments, swimwear, and sleepwear will not be accepted.

ReFashion volunteers will sort and organize the donations, and shoppers can return on Nov. 17 from 1-3:30 p.m. to select new-to-them items they’ll actually use. Volunteers will be on-site to offer free basic mending services. While there is no charge for clothing, donations will be accepted to cover venue rental costs.
