Swap, Don’t Shop”: Don’t Miss ReFashion Bainbridge’s Fall Clothing Swap Nov. 8-9, Plus Community Swing at BHS on Saturday Evening, Election Results
“Swap, Don’t Shop” is the mantra driving sustainable fashion efforts on Bainbridge Island, where residents have celebrated creative reuse since 2016.
The movement began with the Trashion Fashion Show, featuring wearable art made from items destined for landfills. The initiative has since morphed to include workshops, runway shows and exhibitions through ReFashion Bainbridge, a program under the wing of Sustainable Bainbridge.
Following successful events in March 2023, March 2024 and March 2025 that drew more than 100 participants, the next clothing swap is scheduled for Sunday Nov. 9 at the Filipino Hall, 7566 High School Road NE.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
Spanak, Dawn Synder and other event organizers encourage potential participants to “clean your closets of women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing and scarves you’re no longer using, and bring only those items that you would give your best friend to the Filipino Hall on Saturday, Nov. 8, between 12 and 4 p.m.” (Torn or stained clothing, footwear, hats, jewelry, socks, undergarments, swimwear, and sleepwear will not be accepted.) New this year is a shoe department. Backers ask that people donate shoes with no holes or stains

Shop Sunday 12-2:30 and bring some minor mending to keep wearing your favorite clothes.
BISD Jazz Bands Featured at Community Swing Dance Nov. 8th

The Bainbridge Band Boosters will host the 11th Annual Community Swing Dance on Saturday, November 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Bainbridge High School Commons. This all-ages, family-friendly event is open to the public and will feature three hours of swing dancing to live Big Band Jazz music performed by the award-winning Bainbridge High School Jazz Collective and the Woodward Middle School Jazz Band.
The Community Swing Dance serves as the largest fundraising event for the Bainbridge Band Boosters, which provides 100% of program funding and volunteer support to ensure instrumental music education continues to thrive for students in grades 6-12 at Bainbridge High School, Woodward Middle School, and Sakai Intermediate School.
The evening will include free swing dance lessons, a silent auction, and the chance to experience live jazz performed by student musicians from Bainbridge Island School District.
“This is a rare opportunity to experience live, big band music from the next generation of talented Bainbridge Island musicians,” says Band Booster President Nancy Treder.
