Veg Club: Free Gardening Classes at the Bainbridge Public Library – Beginning March 8th at 7pm (via Zoom)

Spring is just around the corner and there are plenty of ways to make this year’s garden the best. One way is to attend Veg Club at the Bainbridge Public Library. You’ll learn about site selection, soil prep, Northwest adapted seed sources, great planting calendars, and succession sowing to keep your beds producing earlier and more efficiently – Kitsap Regional Library

Want more success in the one you already have? Maybe you’re not ready to grow but just veg-curious. Whatever your needs, you’ll want to know about Veg Club.

This new series of classes covers everything from beginner basics to specialized local resources for more experienced growers. Each month, long-time home gardening geek Carol Appenzeller, who describes herself as someone who thinks about growing food more than anyone probably should, will cover a different topic to lead you through seasonally appropriate tasks, skills, and discussions.

In the March 8th session, you’ll learn to make easy, mobile covers to protect early-season plants, increase production of heat-lovers, and extend your harvest season. You’ll also learn how to set up simple, inexpensive lights to grow your own vegetable starts and, of course, some ways to protect those starts from slugs. Future topics include harvesting from your garden all year, common pests and diseases, preserving the harvest, composting, and a fabulous fruit tree field trip.

Classes meet on the second Tuesday of every month at 7 PM. Please check the listing each month in case of changes for selected classes.

Open to all levels of gardeners and it’s free! First session is via Zoom.
