Volunteer at the Grand Old Fourth, When and How to Donate at the Rotary Auction, Check out the Harmony Wombats at Meadowmeer, Tennis Courts Ribbon-Cutting

It’s hard to believe that we’re already closing in on the Grand Old Fourth of July, but here we are! A big moving piece on the big day is our labor force, which is 99.9% volunteers. What flavor of volunteer are you?

🇺🇸 Are you an early bird?

We still need a few extra hands on the 6AM setup crew.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

🇺🇸 Are you a people pleaser?

Barricade attendants and Shuttle Coordinators get to chat up everyone and wear a safety vest. Bare minimum heavy lifting required.

🇺🇸 Maybe you’re more of a “cat herder”?

The Parade needs your mom voice! We need support at the start line and all along the route to keep the crowd at bay when the candy starts flying. *Reminding parade participants to NOT throw candy is also part of this job description.

If you have a couple hours to spare in your day, we would love to have you on our crew. No job is too small at this all-day festival!

Check out the ‘Harmony Wombats’ at Meadowmeer Golf Club on Saturday Night

Meadowmeer Golf & Country Club is presenting live music Saturday evening, featruring the “Harmony Wombats” from 5-7 p.m. at it’s Bar & Grill.

The Harmony Wombats are a Bainbridge based trio whose focus is harmony songs from the 60’s and 70’s folk-rock movement. The trio play familiar songs from the Eagles, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Everly Brothers, CCR, Roy Orbison, Traveling Wilbury’s, America, Mammas and Pappas, John Denver and many many others.

Dance along or sing along but after a Harmony Wombat performance you’ll feel a little pep in your step and a little pride in your stride.

Reservations for parties of 6 or more, otherwise open seating. $10 Cover Charge per person.

Sakai Tennis Courts Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting at 1 p.m. on Saturday

Join the Bainbridge Community Tennis Assoication as it celebrates the opening of new courts at Sakai Park, across from Ordway Elementary School. Opening ceremonies begin at 1 p.m., with family-friendly activities to follow.

Here’s some background from Loanne Harmeling of BCTA: “Sakai Park was purchased in 2015 and a concept plan proposed in 2017, which included ‘possibly one sport court.’ BCTA was at all of the planning meetings advocating for a minimum of two courts, but they were never included in the plans.”

“Through perseverance, a change in the leadership at BIMPD and the advent of pickleball, which reduced public access for outdoor tennis courts, and the continued advocacy from BCTA, as well as a commitment to contribute half of the construction costs, the Sakai courts were finally built and are now being dedicated to public use as a free to play on surface in Winslow, close to schools and the most densely-populated center on BI.”
