2023 Earth Month PosterApril is Earth Month on Bainbridge Island and we are celebrating with activities and events for all ages for Earth Day and Arbor Day during the entire month of April and beyond.  Everyone can take action and join activities to support, celebrate, and learn more about our environment and beautiful planet Earth.

Wildflowers & Other Wonders – April 13 @ 9:30 am – 11:30 am – Come learn how to confidently identify wild spring plants that are edible and medicinal. You’ll meet some old favorites (like stinging nettle), and discover some lesser-known species as well. You’ll forage and nibble on plants and explore botanical language on identification and plant anatomy. Click here for more details.

Beginner’s Birding By Ear – April 20 @ 9:30 am – 11:30 am – Spring is here and with the lengthening days, birds (including migrant birds) are singing their hearts out! Anyone is a naturalist if they are a student of the natural world so newbies, please join Island Wood as they go over the basics with you in this skills class. Been birding before, but need a skills refresher? Field time is all you need. Bring your sense of wonder, questions, and knowledge to share with others. Click here for more details.

Intermediate Birding By Ear – April 27 @ 9:30 am – 11:30 am – If you identify as an intermediate birder, then you’ve been birding more than once or twice, and know the common birds to expect in our area in spring. You’ve probably got a lot of chops with bird distribution and seasonality, and even can whistle a breeding song or two! Your friends tend to ask you, “What’s that?” whenever a feathered friend alights nearby. Click here for more details.

2023 BI Zero Waste Month long Litter pick-up posterZERO WASTE is starting a “Bainbridge Island wide Litter Clean-up” for the entire month of April, which is intended to supplement the one-day event in September that was cut short because of tides. The island-wide cleanup is a collaboration with Sustainable Bainbridge and other organizations, which began more seven years ago.

WEED WARRIORS – Join them and enjoy one of Winslow’s best views from Strawberry Plant Park on Eagle Harborthen spruce it up for spring! Greet the spring with a native plant restoration!

Weed Warriors logoOn Friday, April 7th, 2 to 4 pm, Weed Warriors will host a weed pull at Strawberry Plant Park at the Eagle Harbor road end of Weaver Road NE. This delightful and popular park is being overrun by the usual bullies: ivy, Scotch broom, and holly—not to mention Himalayan blackberries.  Work as hard and long or as easy and short as you like. Bring your plant and tool questions as well.
