ReFashion Bainbridge is gearing up for Fashion in the Forest, the 8th Annual ReFashion Show at IslandWood’s Welcome Center, on Sunday, May 19. The event will showcase the transformative power of upcycling and reusing textiles to promote sustainable fashion.

Doors open at 12:30 p.m. for the 1 p.m. runway show. Attendees can expect to witness a dazzling display of innovative designs crafted from repurposed textiles, embodying the ethos of making apparel without buying new.

This year’s entries will be in one of three categories. In Upcycled Ready-to-wear, entrants must create outfits using used textiles or clothing, significantly altering their original form. Mystery Box participants receive a box of materials and craft garments from the contents. For Shop Your Closet, a new category this year, designers must revamp existing items from their or their friends’ closets without spending money, emphasizing creativity guided by materials rather than preconceived designs.

Outfits will be judged based on construction, creativity, presentation, difficulty, use of materials, and durability.

After the show, take a walk and marvel at the creative ingenuity of artists and models stationed along IslandWood’s picturesque trails. Bring a plain t-shirt or tote for a silk screening of a student-designed ReFashion logo in the Great Hall. Bring a piece of jewelry that no longer suits you and find a new-to-you treasure at the Jewelry Exchange.

Tickets are available for purchase on IslandWood’s website. Runway Tickets, which include trail access, are $30, Student Runway and Trail tickets are $15, Trail-Only Tickets are $20, and Trail-Only Student Tickets are $10. Capacity is limited, so get your tickets early.

The event is sponsored by Bainbridge Disposal, the HeyDay Fund, Bainbridge Community Foundation, Town & Country MarketsBay Hay & Feed, 2atara design + construction, Jenn Herrmann Real Estate, and McCabe By Design LLC.

ReFashion Bainbridge, a program of Sustainable Bainbridge, aims to educate the public on the environmental ramifications of clothing choices. In addition to the annual ReFashion Show, the organization sponsors various events throughout the year.
