Island Volunteer Caregivers Concludes Another Successful Flowers from the Heart Program, Delivering 750 Bouquets in July and August 2023

IVC logoIsland Volunteer Caregivers (IVC), a leading nonprofit organization committed to enhancing the quality of life for seniors and individuals with disabilities, is delighted to announce the successful conclusion of its Flowers from the Heart Program for the year 2023. This heartwarming initiative, which aims to bring joy and smiles to those in need, saw IVC and its dedicated volunteers deliver an impressive total of 750 flower bouquets during the months of July and August.

The Flowers from the Heart Program, a cherished tradition by IVC, has been running for over 15 years, bringing comfort and happiness to seniors and individuals facing physical or emotional challenges in our community. This year’s accomplishment is a testament to the unwavering dedication of IVC’s volunteers and their commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those they serve.

Together, they have played an instrumental role in orchestrating the program, ensuring its continued growth and impact.

Robin Nigash, an IVC volunteer and a driving force behind the Flowers from the Heart Program, has shown exceptional dedication to the community. Her leadership and organizational skills have helped bring together volunteers, local businesses, and community members, fostering a sense of unity and purpose.

Bob Anderson, with his expertise in international floral design and horticulture, has been an invaluable asset to the program. Beyond his role as the Lead Flower Designer, Bob has tirelessly worked with volunteers, sharing his knowledge and skills in floral arrangement. He has also collaborated with island gardeners who share a passion for supporting the IVC’s Flowers from the Heart program by supplying fresh flowers throughout the summer.

This dynamic duo of Robin Nigash and Bob Anderson, along with several other key IVC volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the year to obtain and clean donated vases, a dedicated team of IVC floral designers and bouquet deliverers, and a teen volunteer responsible for personalizing each card, have not only ensured the program’s success in delivering bouquets but have also nurtured a sense of creativity and community among volunteers and flower enthusiasts on the island.

The Flowers from the Heart Program is more than just a delivery service; it represents the kindness and compassion that the Island Volunteer Caregivers organization stands for. As the program continues to grow, it remains deeply rooted in its mission to foster a sense of belonging and connection among our island’s residents.

IVC.FFTH 2022 VolunteersIsland Volunteer Caregivers would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Robin Nigash, Bob Anderson, all the volunteers, local businesses, and community members who generously contributed their time, resources, and support to make this year’s program such a resounding success, with “a special thanks to Deb Krieger, Pegge Ashcroft, Rachel Brandt who grew flowers exclusively for our program.  As well as Wacky Nut gardeners, Frank Stowell, Jackie Chipman, Jody Loving, Catherine Morrow, Cynthia Huffman, Carol Laiche and Christy Frank,” says Joanne Maher, Executive Director of IVC.

On a personal note, when my husband of more than 30 years was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer in January, we signed up with IVC in case we needed assistance getting him to and from his treatments. Just a few short weeks before he died, IVC Flowers from the Heart arrived on our doorstep with a beautiful bouquet, it touched us both deeply and we were both so grateful to live in a community where an organization like IVC (and their amazing volunteers) exists.
