Like Pie? Check out Sunday’s Bike For Pie Ride
Eating pie and bicycling seem like contradictory activities, but not if your a member of Squeaky Wheels, the Bainbridge Island Bicycle Advocates, which will be hosting its annual Bike for Pie this coming Sunday, Aug. 28. The event is designed for the whole family to enjoy a casual ride around the island. Registration runs from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the Bainbridge Island Town Square where the Farmer’s Market takes place next to City Hall. The official ride begins at 10 a.m. and will end at 1 p.m.
Squeaky Wheels is a non- profit, 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to advocating and supporting actions that encourage more people to ride bikes on and near Bainbridge Island. Bike for Pie is the main fundraiser for Squeaky Wheels and proceeds are used to fund volunteer activities and other actions that promote safer bike facilities, awareness, youth education and advocacy.
For more information and to register for Sunday’s event go to squeakywheels.org. Cost is $20 per person.
Meanwhile, the City of Bainbridge Island will have a table at the event, with the purpose of talking to Islanders about its Sustainable Transportation Plan, which includes bikes, pedestrians, and public transportation. “We will also be talking about the plans we have for the Bainbridge Island portion of the Seattle to Olympic Trail, part of the Great American Rail Trail,” says City Manager Blair King. “Bainbridge Island’s Parks and Trails Foundation will be there too to talk about the Rail Trail.”
