The Island Wanderer Blog – A New Look for the New Year
In business as in life, change is inevitable. Just pause for a moment and look around the economic landscape. There are new products and services being hatched daily, or upgrades and refinements being made to existing offerings, practically hour by hour. Think for a second about your laptop, printer or iPhone?
We, Margaret Millmore and Kevin Dwyer, the publishers and contributors to The Island Wanderer website and blog have come to the same conclusion. Change is good—and you might say—expected in our fast-paced world. After many hours of discussion among ourselves and our consulting web master, Abell Smith of Abell Smith Design, we have redesigned our website to make it more interesting, robust and informative to our loyal readers and followers.
Our content won’t change. We’ll still endeavor to be an online feature magazine focusing on Bainbridge Island people, arts and culture, business, non-profit organizations, important events, parks, trails and recreation, and news you can use. We will also do the occasional first-person account on any number of issues, trips or developments that we think our readers and followers might be interested in learning about.
If you are a subscriber, you will continue to receive an email from us every time we submit a new post, or you can go to “manage your settings” and choose to receive a weekly email encompassing everything we published that week. What’s different is that each email post will make it easier for you to find our website and review more content. We also want to make it easier for you, as a subscriber, to forward an interesting post to a friend and allow that person to sign up for The Island Wanderer using a few quick keystrokes on your computer or iPhone.
The new website includes not only current posts, but also category bars in which readers and visitors can find archived stories on their favorite topics, as well as information on visiting Bainbridge Island. Down the right side of the home page, there are links to partner organizations, such as the Chamber of Commerce and the Arts & Humanities Bainbridge, plus highlights of our favorite events via AHB’s Currents Online.
“This new launch has been the culmination of a lot of thinking and strategizing as to how we can best serve our existing subscribers and provide future subscribers with the best content possible,” says Margaret Millmore, who started The Island Wanderer in 2018. “Kevin and I see this site as both a mirror of the community and a place where people new to the island, and long-timers alike, can learn new and interesting tidbits about the place they call home.”

New to the site are ads from island businesses and organizations that we plan to run on the home page and other pages within the site. Ads will run at a standard box size of 300 x 250 pixels on the right sidebar. In the near future, we will also offer ad space on our email blasts. If you are interested in advertising, please let us know, and we will be happy to discuss ad rates and a publication schedule with you and your business or organization. Click here to contact us.
We’d like to thank the Bainbridge Island community for all their support over the last few years, it’s been a pleasure to learn and write about everything and everyone that makes BI the best place to live – Margaret and Kevin.
